Avoid Brain-Rot

According to this article in Seed Magazine, the research of Princeton psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Gould, shows that uninspiring work and boring surroundings promote brain-rot:

"Eight years after Gould defied the entrenched dogma of her science and proved that the primate brain is always creating new neurons, she has gone on to demonstrate an even more startling fact: The structure of our brain, from the details of our dendrites to the density of our hippocampus, is incredibly influenced by our surroundings. Put a primate under stressful conditions, and its brain begins to starve. It stops creating new cells. The cells it already has retreat inwards. The mind is disfigured.

The social implications of this research are staggering. If boring environments, stressful noises, and the primate’s particular slot in the dominance hierarchy all shape the architecture of the brain — and Gould’s team has shown that they do — then the playing field isn't level."

Brain-rot. No, not Alzheimer's.

The brain-rot I'm cautioning you about is a decaying, decomposing, breaking-down of your ability to think, create, invent, originate, improve. To use your mind in inspired ways! The problem with conventional workplaces is that they reward conformity over creativity. They are more interested in generating profits -- not new neurons or the epiphanies that neurons birth.

Do you spend the bulk of your waking time in a lackluster environment, doing tedious tasks, having trivial conversations? What, exactly, do you think day after week after month after year of that mind-monotony is doing to your brain?

Between your ears is the most magnificent and complex system on earth. Put a demand on it. Push it. Stimulate it. Expand it. Use it. As fully as possible.

If your workplace is dumbing you down... start making baby-steps in a Desired Direction. Isn't your brain worth it?

P.S. What if I told you there was a way you could be proactive and not just avoid brain-rot, but actually create new neural pathways and stimulate epiphanies? Well, there is a way! It's called Dance of Shiva, a weird yoga brain training that sets you up for crazy life-changing insights. Who couldn't use some of those?
